हमारे दादा दादी क्यों खुश थे हमसे ज्यादा :)

 यह मुझे एक मित्र से मिला ईमेल के जरिये

WHY OUR GREAT GRANDPARENTS WERE HAPPIER THAN WE ARE!

A bottle of Bayer's heroin. Between 1890 and 1910 heroin was sold as a non-addictive substitute for morphine.
It was also used to treat children with strong cough

 Coca Wine, anyone?
Metcalf Coca Wine was one of a huge variety of wines with cocaine on the market.
Everybody used to say that it would make you happy and it would also work as a medicinal treatment.
Mariani wine
Mariani wine (1875) was the most famous Coca wine of its time.
Pope Leo XIII used to carry one bottle with him all the time.
He awarded Angelo Mariani (the producer) with aVatican gold medal.
 Maltine
Produced by Maltine Manufacturing Company of New York.
It was suggested that you should take a full glass with or after every meal...
Children should take half a glass.
A paper weight:
A paper weight promoting C.F. Boehringer & Soehne (Mannheim , Germany).
They were proud of being the biggest producers in the world of products containing Quinine and Cocaine.
Opium for Asthma:
Cocaine tablets (1900)
All stage actors, singers teachers and preachers had to have them for a maximum performance.
Great to "smooth" the voice.

Cocaine drops for toothache

Very popular for children in 1885.
Not only did they relieve the pain, they made the children happy!
Opium for new-borns
I'm sure this would make them sleep well (not only the Opium, but 46% alcohol!)
No wonder they were called The Good Old Days!!

Very good question. Caveman's finger would try something at elaborating it further:-
1.They didn't encounter so much of media brainwashing. In last 30 years it has increased manyfolds and we have become media zombies. It kills originol thinking.Upshot, they have lesser distractions than us.

2.Their parents didn't tell them[only] to just pursue mundance and materialstic race. They socliased more than us.

3.Gender roles: They believed in age old gender roles and happily lived it. No ego bashings. No over expectations and hence the elongated period of happy married and family life. They hardly faced any emotional burden because of their time in that epoch. Now by the age of 30 a person[male or female] has already experinced/witnessed emotional trauma which they had not in their 60 years.

4.Simple pleasures: They belived in simple pleasures of life rather than ego inflating race of acquiring resources like better car, better wife/husband, luxarious home.
